3-D Secure (PSD2) Transactions Report

Introduction

The 3D Secure Transactions report includes all purchases that used Strong Customer Authentication measures (SCA) via 3-D Secure to verify a consumer before payment was authorized or declined. In cases where both the merchant’s bank (the acquirer) and the consumer’s bank (the issuer) are Europe-based, SCA is required per the EU’s latest Payment Services Directive (PSD2) regulation.

Merchants based outside Europe are not bound by PSD2 but still may enable SCA for added fraud protection, using 3-D Secure, and view details about authenticated transactions in this report. The 3D Secure Transactions report includes data about the consumer, website and payment amount involved in each transaction.

Run a Report

Follow these steps to run the PSD2 Transactions report:

  1. Login to the Segpay Merchant Portal at: https://mp.segpay.com, point your mouse at the Performance Reporting menu and select 3D Secure Transactions Report.

Select Choose from a Saved Report if you have run the 3D Secure Transactions report before and want to retrieve a previously-created report (see the Saved Reports section near the end of this document for more detail). Otherwise, see step 2 below to generate a new report.

  1. Click the date-selector box and choose the time period you want to report on. Select Today, Yesterday, This Month (the current calendar month), Last Week (the last completed Sunday-Saturday period), Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Last Month (the previous calendar month) or pick a Custom Range and select starting and ending dates:

  1. Next, select the specific merchant account(s) you want to report on.

  1. Select which specific Cash program(s) you want to report on. Cash programs group your websites together by affiliate so it may be easier for you to report by cash program instead of selecting individual URLs (in the next step). Note: Select “None” to include websites that are not associated with any Cash program.

  1. Click the URL(s) menu to see a list of your websites. All sites associated with the Cash program(s) you selected in the previous step are selected by default, but you can add or remove specific sites. Note the Search box, which makes it easier to find a specific site if you have a large list.

  1. Click Generate Report. By default, results are sorted reverse-chronologically by date (the most recent transactions are listed first). Each row represents a specific transaction that was authenticated via 3-D Secure before payment was authorized or declined. Click on any column header to sort the report according to the data in that column. The report includes the following columns:

  • Merchant ID (MID)
  • URL: website where the purchase was made
  • Date: day, month, year when the purchase was made
  • Purchase ID: Segpay’s unique identifier for the purchase. A purchase can have multiple transaction IDs associated with it (for example a rebill, refund or one-click)
  • Transaction ID: Segpay’s unique identifier for the transaction
  • Customer name: First and last name supplied by the customer
  • Customer email: Email address supplied by the customer
  • Is Merchant EEA: Yes or No. Indicates whether the merchant’s bank account is based in the European Economic Area
  • Is Customer EEA: Yes or No. Indicates whether the consumer’s issuing bank is based in the European Economic Area
  • Transaction in Scope: Yes or No. If both the merchant and consumer’s banks are based in the EEA, the transaction is considered “in scope” meaning PSD2 required that the merchant use SCA to authenticate the consumer for this transaction
  • Liability Shift: Yes or No.
    • If Yes, 3DS authentication was successful (or the issuer did not respond to a 3DS attempt) so liability for fraud or chargeback on this transaction lies with the issuer, not the merchant.
    • If No, 3DS authentication was not successful (or an error on the merchant’s end prevented authentication). If the merchant chose to authorize payment anyway, the merchant assumes liability for fraud or chargeback.
  • Transaction Amount: Amount charged (or refunded, voided, etc.) for the transaction
  • Currency: Currency in which the transaction amount was charged
  • Transaction Status: Authorized or Declined
  • Authorization Code: Response received from the issuing bank along with their decline or authorization.
  • Transaction Origination: Describes the type of transaction on the Segpay system. Will be one of the following:
    • Point of Sale: The consumer filled out the standard payment form.
    • OC Service: A One-click transaction, where existing credit card information was used (consumer didn’t need to re-enter).
    • IC Service: Instant Conversion purchase, where consumer took an offer to upgrade early from a limited-access trial to a full membership.
    • Post Pay Service: Typically a token-based purchase where merchant captured all, or a portion of a pre-authorized amount.
    • System:
  • 3DS Transaction Type: Customer-initiated or merchant-initiated.
    • Merchant-initiated transactions do not require SCA under PSD2 regulations. A recurring membership charge (rebill) is an example of a merchant-initiated transaction.
  • Card Type: Mastercard, Visa, debit, etc.
  • Merchant Country: Country where the merchant bank account is located
  • Issuing Bank Country: Country where the card-issuing bank is located
  • Referring URL: Website where the transaction was made

Customize Report Results

To sort the results alphabetically or numerically according to any specific column in the report, click the column header, then click it again to re-sort.

Choose from a Saved Report

Most reports have four small icons in the top right corner.  The one shaped like a floppy lets you save your report filter choices so that you can easily retrieve them later.

Just click the icon and type in a name to use when retrieving your report filter.  If you choose the same name again it will let you overwrite the old filter.  You can also rename and delete your filters.

When you are ready to use your filter just click ‘Choose from a saved report’ to pull up your saved filter.  This can save you time if you run the same report many times.  Note saved reports save filters but do not save groupings.

Download my Report

To download your report choose the icon in the top right that looks like a down arrow.

Then give your report a name and choose the format for your download (CSV,XSLX,PDF) and click the download button.

On some reports that return thousands of rows of data you will be given some additional choices for your download.  You will see an option to have your report emailed to you.

Large reports may be emailed to you in a zip archive format.  Very large reports (usually in PDF format) can require the zip archive to be split into multiple emails for delivery.  Save all attachments to the same folder and open the first one and it will uncompress them together into a single large file.

Report Charts

In the top right corner of your report you will see several small icons.  The icon with the waving arrow will allow you to see a chart view of your report.

When viewing each chart type you can use the other dropdown filters to change the way your chart data is represented on the page.  Experiment with different options to see which gives you the best view for that chart type.

Result Table Filtering in your Report

Your report data is returned in a tabular grid format.  There are several useful controls built into this grid for filtering and sorting your data.

Page Controls and both Horizontal and Vertical Scroll Bars will help you to see data that is too large to fit on the screen.

Use the arrows to advance to a certain page or go all the way to the last page.  You can also control how many items display on a single page.   Totals are shown to the right.
